Wavertree trip
A team of 14 junior athletes from Western A C travelled to Wavertree on Saturday 19th April to
compete in the ‘Ernie Gallagher Memorial Open Meeting’ promoted by Liverpool Harriers .
This was the first competition of the season for our junior athletes and results were very promising
for the forthcoming season with 16 medals being won and several PBs achieved. And all this after a
rough crossing by seacat to Liverpool. The most successful athlete was Jacob Callow, who must
be following in his mum Danaa’s footsteps, with 3 gold medals in the 75m, Long Jump and High Jump.
In the years 8+9 class Nathan Pierce was in fine form with a full set of medals with a win in the Long Jump
in a PB of 5.05 as well as 2nd in the 400m and 3rd in the 100m.
Another highlight of the day was in the year 7 boys 75m Hurdles which saw Shaun and Jason Moore
competing against each other in a neck and neck race until Jason stumbled and hit the last hurdle and
fell to the track but recovered to finish second to brother Shaun. In the under 11 boys 135m race Will Morris
showed his class with a storming run which left the other runners behind with a first place in a time of 22.0
All in all a very successful and enjoyable afternoon of athletics and thanks must go to all those that organised

The Summer Track League has now started again
and is held every Thursday evening weather permitting at the QEII High School playing fields from 6:30pm.
Note TT Practise week 29th May & TT week 5th June Summer League Cancelled for safety reasons, see you all again 12th June.

Manx Tri Club are holding a Sprint Triathlon in Peel on Sunday, 18 May at 9am. The event consists of a 750m pool swim, followed by a cycle ride of 23km and a run of 5.5km. The entry form and maps of the run and bike courses can be found on www.manxtriclub.com. The event is open to all, although competitors should be 15 years and over. There are prizes for the first three men and women, the first veteran male, the first veteran woman and the first youth. Those wishing to enter should do so by the 11th of May.
