Northern AC

The club was originally started in 1974 by Mike Boulton. On his return from the Commonwealth Games in New Zealand as a swimming official Mike found the Ramsey Swimming Pool closed for repairs. Trying to keep those children involved in swimming interested in sport, Mike organized a series of cross country events. The events involved half mile runs around Mooragh Parks miniature golf course, which in those days was on the current rugby pitch. In the spring of 1975 a sponsored run was organized to raise money for the cross country trophies. The run was so successful that enough money was raised to give a trophy to everyone that took part. The presentation was held at the Viking Hotel and this was when some of the parents of the children, along with Mike, got together to form the Northern Athletics Club. Some of these included; George Holland, Cathy Christian, Carol Lee and Rose Mazzone (who is still a committed member of the NAC committee).

Both Western AC & Northern AC athletes compete together as a mixed team off island throughout the summer months in the UK Northern leauges.

RAMSEY FIRE SERVICE ROAD RACES

The fire service runs are for ages 16 and over and are held once a month on Thursdays at Ramsey Fire Station. The First race takes place on Thursday 8th October commencing at 7.00pm. Please arrive for 6.30pm to register and collect your number. There are 2 handicapped races, over a 1.75 mile and a 5 mile course round the town. The handicap system makes these races ideal for ‘joggers’ those wanting to have-a-go, even if you only want to plod round to get fit. For safety reasons you must remember to wear reflective clothing. Non-members welcome.

The cost to enter is: Club members £3, others £5.

Please remember to keep your allocated number for the entire series of runs.

Northern AC Ramsey Park Runs

The Park Runs are handicapped similar to the Firemans runs. The 1 lap is 1.70 miles and the 3 lap is 3.69 miles. The route is: from the Lakeside cafe round the lake up the path by the gardener's shed through the trees along the path adjacent to the tennis courts up the steps to the top gate down the track coming out opposite the BMX back back into the park round the lake for 3 laps and on the last lap round the lake and back to the cafe. 5 runs in the series 3 to count for the league. It's a great event which I'm sure you'll enjoy, hope to see you there!
